Arnoux, Guy

1886 – 1951
French

Guy Arnoux was a French painter, illustrator and decorator.  Though he initially worked in the fashion industry and produced several beautiful pochoir plates for La Gazette du Bon Ton, he changed direction during World War I and became primarily an illustrator of small books for children on a military theme.  His work is typically primitive in style with blocky color forms outlined in black, executed in pochoir.

Arnoux was very interested in military and marine scenes and he was appointed official painter of the French Navy.  He was an ardent Americanist and American Indians are often represented in his work.

His later projects included decorative panels and murals for buildings and ocean liners and many graphic commissions for menus, posters, games, programs and even shoes.
