Armington, Caroline

1875 – 1939
Canadian

Caroline Wilkinson was born in Ontario, Canada, in 1875. She studied painting as a teenager but pursued a career as a nurse in New York before sailing to Europe in 1900 where she married the artist Frank Armington. After a brief return to Canada, the couple chose Paris as their home where they lived and worked as artists until the outbreak of World War II.

Husband and wife were accomplished and recognized artists both as a couple and individually. Caroline Armington’s etchings of Paris scenes were very popular during her lifetime and are in the permanent collections of many museums and institutions in Europe and North America.
