Pierre Dubreuil began his studies at the prestigious École des Beaux Arts but left after the first trimester to apprentice in the atelier of Henri Matisse. There he studied painting and sculpture until he was drafted into service during World War I.
After the war he resumed working as an artist and had his first exhibition at the Salon des Indépendants and the Salon d’automne in 1921. He worked with Jean-Émile Laboureur and Jean Frélaut on a mural for the École de Navigation de Paimpol and later designed tapestries for Aubusson at Gobelin.
He was an accomplished etcher and illustrator and a member of the Peintres-Graveurs Indépendants and the Peintres-Graveurs Français.
