Lalanne, Maxime

1827 – 1886

Maxime Lalanne is considered a major figure in the etching revival in France in the second half of the 19th century. A prolific print maker, he was an enthusiastic member of the Société des Aquafortistes and wrote a treatise on the process of etching in 1866 and another on sketching in 1869. His images of Paris are often somber in feeling but exquisitely rendered.
